President's Message

Summer 2025

This month's message is by Advocacy Committee Chair, Stanley Liu, MD, FACC

Dear Maryland ACC Members,

Our Advocacy Committee’s work for Maryland’s legislative 2025 session is over, but we want to update you on the advocacy the ACC is doing nationally. The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” that the House of Representatives passed last week has raised concerns for Medicaid patients as well as for current and future medical students. It also proposes significant changes to Medicare reimbursement that will affect many of us with Medicare patients. The ACC joined many other societies in sending joint letters to Congress prior to the bill’s passage expressing these concerns:

Joint Letter re: Medicaid Cuts

Joint Letter re: Federal Student Loan Changes

Proposed Medicare changes:

      • In 2026, Medicare payments to physicians (i.e., Medicare conversion factor) will increase by 75% of the Medicare Economic Index (MEI, a marker of practice inflation).
      • In 2027 and years beyond, the Medicare conversion factor will only increase by 10% of the MEI, which will do little to help relieve inflationary pressures.

The bill goes to the Senate and will likely undergo additional changes.

If you would like to receive further updates or to get involved in the Maryland ACC’s Advocacy Committee, we’d love to communicate further! Please complete this form.

Wishing everyone a wonderful summer ahead.

Sincerely,

Stanley Liu, MD, FACC
